Installing engineered hardwood over a concrete subfloor used to mean glue-down methods and moisture complications. Maison Plank simplifies the process. With our floating click-lock system and engineered HDF core, these floors install efficiently and perform reliably—even over concrete slabs.
This guide walks through what you need to know to install Maison Plank correctly in slab-on-grade or multi-level concrete applications.
Step 1: Confirm Site Conditions
Before installation, ensure the building is enclosed and climate-controlled. All wet trades (drywall, paint, concrete patching) must be complete and dry. HVAC systems should be operational, and interior temperatures maintained between 60–80°F for a minimum of five days before installation.
Step 2: Test and Record Moisture Levels
Concrete subfloors must be tested for moisture using one of the following industry-accepted methods:
Calcium Chloride Test (ASTM F1869): Moisture vapor emission rate (MVER) must not exceed 3 lbs/1,000 sq. ft./24 hrs.
Relative Humidity Test (ASTM F2170): RH must not exceed 75% within the slab.
Important: Always document and retain your test results. Excessive moisture may void the product warranty or lead to long-term performance issues.
Step 3: Prepare the Subfloor
Ensure the concrete is clean, dry, and flat to within 3/16" over 10 feet.
Use leveling compound if needed to correct low/high spots.
Install an approved vapor barrier or underlayment with a built-in moisture membrane. For sound control, custom orders of Maison Plank may include a pre-attached cork underlayment.
Step 4: Plan the Layout
Maison Plank boards are all the same length (80 3/4"), which simplifies layout and avoids the randomness of traditional hardwood.
Stagger end joints by a minimum of 8" for strength and visual consistency.
Allow a 1/2" expansion gap around all fixed vertical surfaces.
Step 5: Click-Lock Installation
Start along the longest, straightest wall.
Use spacers to maintain expansion gaps.
Engage the tongue-and-groove click-lock system at a low angle and press down to lock.
Use a tapping block and pull bar as needed to tighten end joints.
Do not glue or nail Maison Plank flooring. The floating system is designed to expand and contract freely.

Step 6: After Installation — Protecting Your Investment
Maison Plank is engineered for durability, but like any real wood product, a few basic care measures will help maintain its appearance:
Keep indoor humidity between 35%–55% to support long-term stability
Use felt pads under furniture to reduce surface wear
Place mats at entryways to catch dirt and grit
These small steps help preserve the finish and keep your floors looking their best—even in high-traffic environments.
Maison Plank is designed to make installations easier without sacrificing quality. Whether you’re building new or renovating a multi-family space, following these steps ensures the floor performs beautifully over time.
